why oh why must . . .

everybody have a blog?

debt

I knew that China had been funding the US economy by buying dollars but 265 billion?!?

That is completely ridiculous. The US's trade deficit has doubled between years ending Dec 2002 and Dec 2005.

The numbers for US debt are staggering. Thousands of billions of dollars.

How could Bush possibly win votes a second time?

I guess its a combination of factors. People know, or think they know, where Bush 'stands' and what he 'stands' for. Having watched the last election, I can honestly say I can't remember what Kerry's policies were. Also, Bush gots to make lots of speeches about defending the American way since 9/11 and things like that sit sub/conciously, rightly or wrongly, in the forefront of peoples minds.
Based on those figures (and I'm not great at figures so I apologise if these are a bit off so please correct me if I'm wrong), we can expect the US to owe $1,447 billion (not all of it to China) by the time Mr Bush leaves in 1006 days, 18 hours, 57 minutes. (subject to no re-writings of the consitution). After that it can only get better. Well, depends what Condi is gonna do I guess...
On a lighter note, we fund America 1.5% more than China based on our respective GDPs.

its too late for me to get a calculator out...

We must buy -relatively- more American exports as well though.

Come to think of it, if Gordon is spending the UK treasury on buying dollars I'd be most displeased, Malaysia for example made a billion or so by speculating on Euros against dollars.

How much oil is there in Iran again?

I think Bush won based on a poorly run campaign by Kerry. He flip flopped on issues and basically said that people should vote for him because he wasn't Bush. Like the above person said - you didn't know where Kerry stood on issues. And the question is would you rather have a wishy washy president who doesn't know what he thinks in power, or one who definitely stands for something which you may or may not agree with. I didn't think that he would turn out quite this bad.
